ATLAS
- The ATLAS experiment is searching for rare processes
- Discoveries: Higgs particle, SuperSymmetry ..
- Large data samples - O(PB) per year
- World wide collaboration
- 2500 physicists spread over 37 countries
- Data needs to be distributed
The Grid is the model for the LHC computing infrastructure
The ARC middleware offers an an end-to-end computing system for the ATLAS experiment. The applications cover:
- Monte Carlo production and data processing
- Data Management and storage
- Distributed user analysis
NorduGrid has been continuously running ATLAS applications since 2002.
NDGF provides today the Nordic Tier1. This ARC based system is unique within the wLCG computing system with its truly distributed design. This rather "cloudy" resource, known as the "NDGF cloud" within the wLCG, was the best performing cloud and grid in 2008 (table below 01.01 - 31.12, 2008).
